Community Symposia
Recovery happens in communities and neighborhoods where people live so they can access natural support systems and live a life of independence. The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is promoting and supporting a behavioral health delivery system that promotes the development of recovery communities across Georgia. We work together to understand, welcome, encourage, engage and nurture people who have mental health and substance use challenges.
WE BELIEVE
People are motivated & informed by the lived recovery experience, the success stories.
People want to be heard, not fixed. True partnership means being listened to.
There are many pathways to recovery. We build on what works.
To make sustainable change we are continuously invitational and inclusive.
Recovery is not only possible, it is an expectation.
Through the work of enduring partnerships between DBHDD’s Office of Recovery Transformation, Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network, Georgia Council for Recovery, and the Georgia Parent Support Network, we work with members of communities across the State to:
- Organize focused conversations about recovery
- Plan for and host local recovery symposiums, and
- Foster local collaborative relationships for continued development of communities that are recovery-focused
- Building peer leadership and peer culture
- Person-centered assessments & supports
- Continued supports based on treatment for chronic conditions
- Community engagement & inclusion of recovery partners who help keep people well
- To develop local resources and leadership in recovery oriented initiatives
- To develop local “learning communities” as allies and partners in a continuing effort to create a system of care that is community based.
- To develop local awareness of the recovery movement and local behavior health services
