Laurisa Guerrero Named Executive Director: Georgia Council for Recovery
The Georgia Council for Recovery, Georgia’s exclusive statewide Recovery Community Organization, celebrating 22 years of service to the Georgia Recovery Community is excited to share that after a focused search for executive director candidates, the Board of Directors is excited to announce that Laurisa Guerrero has been named the organization’s new Executive Director. Laurisa Guerrero, who currently serves as Director of Peer Services for the Georgia Council for Recovery, will serve as the organizations third Executive Director in its 22 year history assuming her duties in the summer of 2023 upon the retirement of incumbent Executive Director, Neil Campbell.
“It is a tremendously humbling honor to be invited by the Board of Directors to lead the team at the Georgia Council for Recovery. Our mission to educate, advocate and create safe and empowering environments that support the dignity and value of what’s right and what’s working with individuals, communities and systems in peer-led recovery is critical to peers and our families as we confront the reality of the addiction epidemic in Georgia,” said Laurisa Guerrero, Executive Director -Designee, Georgia Council for Recovery.

About Laurisa Guerrero:
Laurisa Guerrero has worked with the Georgia Council for Recovery since early 2016. She started her work with GC4R as an advocate for recovery for young people and providing peer services to high school-aged youth. She currently resides in Chamblee, Georgia with her wife and two dogs. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Kennesaw State University and a master’s degree in public health from Emory University. Laurisa spends her free time hiking, traveling, and volunteering with the National Park Services. Most importantly, Laurisa is a person in long-term recovery from substance use disorders and mental health challenges. What this means to her is that she has not felt the need to use drugs and alcohol to change the way she feels since October 2014.
