Congress Needs to Act on Addiction Recovery This Week

The Georgia Council for Recovery calls on the full U.S. Senate to take urgent action on the comprehensive legislative package aimed at combatting the opioid epidemic passed yesterday by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. On December 12, 2023 the House of Representatives voted 386-37 to pass H.R. 4531 that would reauthorize key SUPPORT Act programs for patients with substance use disorder. “It is imperative there be time for both the House of Representatives and the Senate to agree to shared language so final legislation can pass both chambers prior to adjournment for 2023. Important life saving programs, in communities across America, are dependent on strong bipartisan leadership from Congress,” said Laurisa Guerrero, Executive Director of the Georgia Council for Recovery. “Georgia needs our U.S.Senators to urge Senate leadership to prioritize S. 3393, as passed by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, so that both Chambers of Congress have time to address this serious healthcare issue prior to adjourning,” said Guerrero.
