Dear Recovery Champions,
As we stand at the threshold of September, I am thrilled to announce the kickoff of the 2023 National Recovery Month! This year’s theme, “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community,” fills our hearts with hope and reminds us that recovery is a journey that belongs to all of us.
At the Georgia Council for Recovery (GC4R), we couldn’t be more proud to be part of this national celebration. We are dedicated to supporting those on their path to recovery and empowering the communities around them. Here are some exciting ways we are participating in this year’s Recovery Month:
-
Recovery Community Organization Mini Grants: Working in partnership with our friends at DBHDD, GC4R has extended a helping hand to Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs) and other organizations across Georgia by providing Recovery Month Mini Grants. These grants will empower RCOs to organize events and initiatives that raise awareness, eliminate stigma, and promote the importance of recovery for everyone.
- Mobilizing Recovery Across Georgia: GC4R has teamed up with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and the Clinton Foundation to mobilize recovery efforts across the state. The MRAGA bus tour will stop at 47 cities across Georgia advocating and celebrating peers in recovery. #MRAGA will create an inclusive space where recovering individuals, policy makers, local officials, and community members can connect, celebrate recovery, and raise awareness about the resources available to support those in need.View schedule at www.mobilizerecoveryacrossgeorogia.com
- 5th Annual Recovery Month Lunch: To wrap up this momentous month, GC4R is hosting our 5th Annual Recovery Month Lunch. This gathering will serve as a testament to the strength and resilience of our recovery community, bringing together peers, families, professionals, and allies to celebrate the milestones achieved and the journey that lies ahead. The true impact of Recovery Month lies within our community. It’s about individuals coming together to support each other in their journey towards healing and transformation. So, my dear peers, I encourage each one of you to join the recovery movement and celebrate recovery out loud. Together, let’s make September a month of inspiration, love, and compassion. Let’s come together as a united force, celebrating recovery out loud and breaking down barriers that may stand in the way. Recovery is for everyone, and together, we can build a stronger, more empathetic, and inclusive world.
With boundless excitement and heartfelt gratitude,
Laurisa Guerrero
