Laurisa Guerrero, who currently serves as Director of Peer Services for the Georgia Council for Recovery, will serve as the organizations third Executive Director in its 22 year history assuming her duties in the summer of 2023 upon the retirement of incumbent Executive Director, Neil Campbell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span class=\"x_contentpasted0\">\u201cIt is a tremendously humbling honor to be invited by the Board of Directors to lead the team at the Georgia Council for Recovery. Our mission to educate, advocate and create safe and empowering environments that support the dignity and value of what\u2019s right and what\u2019s working with individuals, communities and systems in peer-led recovery is critical to peers and our families as we confront the reality of the addiction epidemic in Georgia,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><b><i>said Laurisa Guerrero, Executive Director -Designee, Georgia Council for Recovery.<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsoplaintext\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c The Board of Directors congratulates Laurisa Guerrero on her unanimous selection to serve as the third Executive Director of the Georgia Council for Recovery. Laurisa demonstrated a combination of focused professionalism and a compassion to lead with a servants heart as she leads the Georgia Council for Recovery into this new and exciting chapter of our leadership for, and service to, the Georgia Recovery Community,\u201d\u00a0<b><i>said Gwen Skinner, Chair of the Board, Georgia Council for Recovery.<\/i><\/b><b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsoplaintext\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI am so very proud of Laurisa Guerrero. Laurisa has that special spirit which unites, connects, and builds successful relationships leading to extraordinary projects and effective policies,\u201d\u00a0<b><i>said Neil Campbell, Executive Director of the Georgia Council for Recovery.<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsoplaintext\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>About Laurisa Guerrero:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsoplaintext\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Laurisa Guerrero has worked with the Georgia Council for Recovery since early 2016. She started her work with GC4R as an advocate for recovery for young people and providing peer services to high school-aged youth. She currently resides in Chamblee, Georgia with her wife and two dogs. She earned her bachelor&#8217;s degree in political science from Kennesaw State University and a master&#8217;s degree in public health from Emory University. Laurisa spends her free time hiking, traveling, and volunteering with the National Park Services. Most importantly, Laurisa is a person in long-term recovery from substance use disorders and mental health challenges.
