In many parts of Georgia first responders cannot respond with in the four minute &#8220;window of life&#8221; to reverse an overdose.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">HB 1170 places opioid antagonists in strategic tax payer funded buildings to enhance the opportunity to save lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">The bill allows for opioid antagonists to be placed in all buildings where the state requires a defibrillator.<\/span><span class=\"x_s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_p1\"><strong><span class=\"x_s1\">It excludes schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/legislation\/63848\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">HB 181 By Representative Rick Townsend<\/a><\/span><span class=\"x_s1\">\u00a0&#8211; PASSED\u00a0\u00a0SENATE HEALTH and HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_p1\"><strong><span class=\"x_s1\">HB 181 &#8211;<\/span><span class=\"x_s2\">\u00a0The Kratom Bill was complex and has seen many substitutes and amendments.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"x_s1\">TALKING POINTS<span class=\"x_Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">As person in long term recovery (As a recovery ally)\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_s2\">I support the version of HB 181 as passed by the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_s2\">Don&#8217;t let the special interests lobby stop this important legislation.<\/span><span class=\"x_s2\">The current version of the bill instead aims to impose regulations on kratom, similar to the types enacted in other states.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">HB 181 would:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">raise the minimum age from 18 to 21<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">ban certain forms of kratom use (vaping)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">expand the labeling requirements<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">require manufacturers to register with the state and mandate that kratom be sold behind the counter or in a locked glass case\u2014among other restrictions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">This bill is pro child, pro family, and pro recovery.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_p3\"><span class=\"x_s4\">Senate Health and Human Services Committee<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_p3\"><span class=\"x_s5\">Senator Ben class=\"x_s2\">In many parts of Georgia from metro Atlanta and across rural Georgia there are, literally, no medical professionals serving Georgians impacted by mental health and addiction recovery medical issues\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">The number one cause of death in the United States for people between 18 and 45 years old is overdose\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">We need to encourage more college students to enter this vital medical career path\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p governments to follow federal law on decisions and procedures on zoning\u00a0regarding halfway houses, drug rehabilitation centers, or other facilities for treatment of drug dependency<\/span><span class=\"x_s2\">There are those in Georgia citing outdated Federal Law to justify requiring six months delay for zoning applications related to addiction.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_p1\"><strong><span class=\"x_s1\">TALKING POINTS\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">This legislation will mandate that all government entities comply with current Federal Law and treat addiction zoning applications the same as all other zoning applications which is two months<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">HB 1073 does not mandate a local government approve or deny any application\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">HB 1073 only requires the timeframe on any decision be in compliance with Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists to establish a professional health program to provide for monitoring and rehabilitation of impaired healthcare professionals and authorizes the Georgia Board of Nursing to establish a professional health program to provide for monitoring and rehabilitation of impaired nurses<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"x_s1\">TALKING POINTS\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">HB 1264 provides the exact same professional opportunities for nurses that doctors and other professionals have access too\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s2\">Our nurses deserve the same opportunities as other professionals to return to the workplace following successful completion of
