NICU
Connecting parents with infants in neonatal intensive care units to peer support services.
CARES in the NICU:
- Engage with expecting mothers at Northeast Georgia Medical Center identifying as in need of peer support before giving birth
- Engage with parents and families who have an infant admitted to the NICU in order to develop a supportive relationship
- Support parents and families in the development of an appropriate, reliable, and safe support system
- Listen and be present to answer questions parents and families may have about recovery supports or treatment options
- Meet with family members or individuals who are involved with the parents
- Provide education on overdose prevention and the use of Naloxone

Virtual All Recovery Meetings In an effort to preserve the recovery communities we’ve built together and continue to provide a place of hope and safety during these challenging times, we have created a full calendar of virtual All Recovery meetings that you can join online or by phone.
Emergency Department”
In partnership with Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) and Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), Georgia Council on Substance Abuse (GCSA) provides peer support to individuals having experienced an opioid overdose or any substance use disorder related incident in NGMC’s three campus emergency departments in Gainesville, Braselton, and Winder. NE Georgia Community Connections, places Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialists (CARES/CPS-AD) in the NGMC emergency departments. These CARES have received training tailored specifically to assisting people in an emergency room setting.
