Georgia Council on Substance Abuse Celebrates SAMHSA New Office of Recovery Historic Achievement for Recovery in the United States

The Georgia Council on Substance Abuse celebrates and congratulates The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on the historic establishment of an Office of Recovery.

With the establishment of the Office of Recovery, SAMHSA has established the necessary framework for sustainable federal resources and funding for peer led recovery.

“SAMHSA has made history with the establishment of the Office of Recovery. The Office of Recovery will make a transformational difference in the lives of peers in recovery and in communities across America. Thank you to Regina LaBelle, Acting Director of National Drug Control Policy, and Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, PhD, Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use for their vision, leadership and commitment to the Recovery Community,” said Neil Campbell, Executive Director, Georgia Council on Substance Abuse.

“This is milestone moment in the history of the Recovery Community. With the establishment of the Office of Recovery, SAMHSA has declared that recovery is top priority sending a clear signal that recovery is real. The Georgia Council on Substance Abuse is excited to partner with SAMHSA and the Office of Recovery to enhance services for peers across Georgia,” said Jeff Breedlove, Chief of Policy for the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse.

“Georgia has experienced a powerful National Recovery Month working in partnership with Commissioner Judy Fitzgerald at the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. People are breaking the stigma, standing up and declaring that recovery is real. The Office of Recovery in SAMHSA will take peer led recovery to the next level and the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse celebrates the creation of the Office of Recovery at SAMHSA,” said Neil Campbell, Executive Director, Georgia Council on Substance Abuse.
