Motivational Interviewing Training for CARES:

From Boot Camp to Best Practice
The scope of this training series, facilitated by Alan Lyme, LISW, MINT, is to provide core, booster, and advanced trainings to all participants in order to provide the best and most cost-efficient method of moving towards competency in Motivational Interviewing. Towards that goal, coding of recorded work (or real-play) and individual feedback/coaching are integral components.

Successful completion of the initial three trainings and submission of work for coding, along with a quantifiable proficiency in MI will be necessary for participants to gain entry to the “Training New Trainer’s” workshops.

Motivational Interviewing In Groups for CARES:

Adapting MI to group interactions requires re-conceptualizing core practices to harness the power of group support, cohesion and momentum.

This two-day training reviews the essential elements of MI, provides detailed information based on the Motivational Interviewing in Groups book and the process of adapting MI to groups across a variety of formats. It is highly experiential, leading participants through group practice exercises across the four phases of MI groups.

Objectives:
  1. Develop a working knowledge of MI concepts and practices
  2. Understand the key issues in peer group facilitation
  3. Understand group practice of MI compared to individual practice
  4. Develop a greater knowledge of the range of MI groups design options
  5. Understand the four phases of MI groups
  6. Experience/observe MI groups in action
  7. Develop basic/advanced MI group leadership skills

“Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, goal oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.”
